Core Tasks and Objective
Advocacy: The WTG represents its members in contacts with the government, trade unions, and other relevant organizations.
Collective Labor Agreement Negotiations: One of the most important tasks is negotiating and concluding the Collective Labor Agreement (CLA) for the Technical Wholesale Trade.
Member Support: They offer their members advice, information and support in the areas of employment law, social security, training and other employer matters.
Sector promotion: They are committed to improving the image and attractiveness of the technical wholesale sector.
This foundation was established by social partners in the Technical Wholesale Trade, consisting of approximately 1.700 Technical Wholesalers with almost 50.000 employees.
Through the social fund FTG (until 2026 this was FKB), social partners have developed all kinds of projects that benefit all employers and employees in the Technical Wholesale Trade.
FTG stands for the Technical Wholesale Fund Foundation. It initiates and finances projects such as:
The Metaalunie has over 15.000 members. The association has nine districts and 40 affiliated trade associations. They organize services, training, and advocacy in regions and for specific business groups. It is the largest employers' organization for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the metal industry. Its members have a combined turnover of approximately €35 billion and employ over 180.000 people. It focuses on metal companies in diverse sectors, such as trade and service.
The technical wholesale trade consists of companies that specialize in the sale and distribution of an extremely wide range of technical products, materials and components to other companies (Business-to-Business or B2B).
In addition, they often perform targeted service work on their products. Trade and service are a vital link in the production chain. Without trade and service, products cannot be manufactured and maintenance cannot be performed.
Some companies focus solely on selling new materials, while others specialize in trading used machinery and equipment. Examples of products these companies deal in include: bar, square, sheet metal, profile, and tubing (processed and unprocessed), hardware and tools, fasteners, welding and threaded fittings, couplings, ball bearings, V-belts, seals, cables and hoses, hydraulic and pneumatic components, winches, anchors, chains, hoisting and lifting equipment, batteries, safety equipment, as well as complete machines, machine lines, equipment, and installations. Together, they employ approximately 13000 people and have an annual turnover of billions. Trade and service are characterized by a high degree of market knowledge and a commercial spirit. Key areas of focus within this sector include optimizing inventory, the logistics process, and training employees in sales and technical skills.
