Euronorm EN 10374 is the new standard that specifies the dimensions, tolerances, internal and external surface characteristics and marking of welded fittings for the food and chemical industries. It has a direct reference to EN 10357 (pipes).
The most important aspects:
- Application: Standard EN 10374, like the old standard DIN 11852, mainly concerns welding bends, welding T-pieces and welding reducers suitable for sanitary and hygienic applications. The standard specifies the requirements that the fittings must meet, in which cleanliness, corrosion resistance and material integrity are crucial.
- Scope of application: This standard is used in various industries requiring high quality, hygienically designed welded fittings, with a strong focus on the:
- Food industry: For piping systems and equipment for processing food, beverages, dairy products, etc.
- Chemical industry: For the transport of various chemicals through pipes and process components where purity and corrosion resistance are essential.
- Key aspects: Dimensions and tolerances: Ensures interchangeability and a good fit with tubes according to EN 10357.
Specifications:
- Material: Stainless steel grades; 1.4301, 1.4307 304(L) and 1.4404 or 1.4432 316L.
- Production: The fittings are manufactured from unannealed tube (CC) or annealed tube (BC).
- Surface properties: The welded fittings, like the dairy pipes according to EN 10357, must meet an internal roughness value of Ra ≤0,8 µm and in the welding environment Ra ≤1,6 µm (0.8/1.6) This is crucial to prevent bacterial growth and to guarantee product purity. However, these roughness values may increase by a factor of 2 in the deformation area. Hollimex also has many fittings in stock, in accordance with EHEDG and FDA guidelines. They have an internal roughness of Ra ≤0,8 µm and in the welding environment Ra ≤ 0,8µm (0.8/0.8We often supply these products under our own name “QH-Plus"Very recognizable and traceable for you.
- Marking: Specifies the information to be marked on the fittings for traceability and identification.
Types of fittings categorized by EN10374:
- Bends with an angle of 45°, 90° or 180°:
- Type BS (short version)
- Type BL (long version) are also called roll bends or orbital welding bends
- Expired:
- Type RCS (short concentric version)
- Type RCL (long concentric version)
- Type RES (short eccentric version)
- Type REL (long eccentric version)
- T-pieces:
- Type TL (with equal legs and even diameter)
- Type TS (with short legs and even diameter)
- Type TRL (with equal legs and tapered diameter) are also called welding transition tees or reducing tees
- Type TRS (with short legs and tapered diameter) are also called welding transition tees or reducing tees
All other sanitary weld fittings, such as orbital reducers, flow bends, flow tees, Y-pieces, and crossovers, are not described in the standard, but are manufactured from pipes according to EN 10357. Therefore, dimensions may vary between manufacturers.
At Hollimex Stainless & Other Metals, you will find an increasing number of welding fittings manufactured in accordance with EN 10374.
Relation to other standards:
EN 10374 often refers to or is used in conjunction with other European standards, such as EN 10357 (stainless steel tubes for use in the food and chemical industries) and EN 10204 (inspection documents for metal products, such as 3.1 certificates).
The European standard EN 10374 has previous national standards such as DIN 11852 effectively replaced in Germany. DIN 11852 will continue to exist, however.
In essence, EN 10374 provides a standardised framework for manufacturers and users of welded fittings to ensure the quality, hygiene and compatibility of components used in sensitive industrial applications.
