ALLOY ALLOWANCE
The alloy surcharge is a price supplement that is often calculated monthly based on the rate of the alloying elements and is added to the base price of stainless steel. The costs of the alloying elements used by stainless steel producers, such as nickel, chromium and molybdenum, form a very significant part of the total production costs.
The prices of these raw materials are extremely volatile. This explains why producers want to pass on the fluctuations in their prices without having to constantly adjust the basic price. The application of alloy surcharges is therefore done for purely economic reasons.
